Sandskiing is a sport practiced on sand dunes with a proper inclination. The sport is professionally derived from skiing on snow, whereas sandboarding was first popularized by tourists descending the dunes sitting or lying and later standing on handcrafted boards.
A pioneering place for this sport was Monte Kaolino in Germany, where this sport has been practiced for 60 years. Later, with the development of snowboarding, sandboarding also started to emerge in this hemisphere. The equipment used for riding on the mountains of kaolin sand is the same as used for snowboarding.
20 years ago sandskiing arose in Namibia, more precisely with a skier from Germany and in Peru the sport is currently present thanks to the organization InterSands working on the development and the expansion of this discipline not only in South America, but on a global scale.
